Professional Experience | 1996-2013 Barn Equine Surgery, Dorset – developed advanced dentistry referral service, 800-1500 cases per year, focus on practice development, bonding clients to practice, developing referral service 2001 First vet to pass UK BEVA/BVDA Examination for BAEDT membership. Began taking referrals for malocclusions, extractions, periodontal disease. 2002-2012 Developed equine dentistry & referral practice within Barn Equine Surgery, 95% dental cases by 2012. Increasing referral stream to 50% referral cases by 2012. Multiple invitations worldwide to lecture, demonstrate (see below). 2003 onwards - Developed interest in preservative and restorative approach to equine dentistry following Minnesota MEDS2 Course in 2004 (D.Klugh DVM), and discussions and education from T.Johnson DVM at various courses and conferences (e.g. Edinburgh 2003). Adopted / developed restorative techniques for infundibular restorations, incisor endodontics, periodontal disease. Improved oral extraction skills through multiple referrals and all in-house cases, emphasis always on preserving maxillary antral bone, minimally invasive procedures including CT sectioning, pin repulsions. 2011 onwards - liaison/mentoring with T.Lundstrom, Sweden - following 2 visits, and one visit from TL to my practice, adopted and adapted occlusal endodontic techniques in CT – occlusal endodontic CT case-log now up to 24 cases over 2 years with 3 failures/extractions to date. 2013 to date Opened The Equine Dental Clinic Ltd, a 100% equine dentistry practice performing 95% referral work. At time of writing, have performed referrals for 110 equine practices in UK and Europe, referrals consisting of wide variety of surgical, endodontic, periodontic and restorative cases. |
